Only one word can really sum up the 1978 modified season, dominance. Geoff Bodine shattered the record books and waltzed his way to the 1978 track championship behind the backing of car owner Dick Armstrong. Geoff was unstoppable in the early months winning a record setting 7 consecutive times. Extra distance specialist and 1978 Spring Sizzler champion Maynard Troyer ended his streak when he took the checkers June 30 in the Ferrara 100.
It was not only a year to remember for Mr. Bodine, it was also an incredible season for Sportsman driver Tom Rosati. Though he could not match Bodine’s 7 straight wins, Tom was able to start the year with an impressive mark of 4 consecutive victories. He went on to win 10 times in 1978 and secured his second consecutive track championship over Jeb Balise and Jim McCallum.
