Over the years, the Foundation has committed hundreds of thousands of dollars to assist members and their families in time of need. In 1954, following the death of Wilbur Shaw, 3-time Indy 500 winner and President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Wilbur Shaw Memorial Fund was established. The Fund was earmarked to assist drivers in American Automobile Association (AAA) events who were in need and unable to pay medical expenses. Following the withdrawal of AAA from sanctioning auto racing, the Wilbur Shaw Fund was continued with the same purposes for participants in the United States Auto Club (USAC). The USAC Benevolent Foundation officially took control of these funds in 1959. TO Make
