June 11, 2008
(Stafford
Springs, CT)---Friday night, June 13th will see a
flurry of NASCAR Racing action at Stafford Motor Speedway.
The Connecticut half-mile will host the 35th Annual
Coors Light SK Modified® 100 and two 30-lap Late Model
features, as well as feature events for the SK Light,
Limited Late Model, and DARE Stock divisions this
Friday night, making it a Super Value Night for NASCAR
fans with a total of 6 feature events and 210 laps
of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series feature racing
action.
The
35th Annual Coors Light SK Modified® 100 will headline
the night's festivities as 28 SK Modified® drivers
will attempt to win the first of two extra distance
SK Modified® events at Stafford this season. Ted Christopher
enters this Friday night's 100-lap event one victory
away from his 100th career win at Stafford. Christopher
currently has a grand total of 84 SK Modified® wins,
8 Whelen Modified Tour wins, 6 ProStock wins, and
1 Camping World Series at Stafford. Christopher will
also look to add to his stellar extra distance record
at Stafford. Christopher has won three 100-lap SK
Modified® events, two 150-lap SK Modified® events,
and he has one ProStock 100-lap victory to his credit.
But Christopher will face stiff competition for this
year's Coors Light SK Modified® 100 crown.
Defending
Coors Light SK Modified® 100 winner Woody Pitkat is
currently the SK Modified® points leader and he was
the winner of the Spring Sizzler feature event. Bo
Gunning has also won a feature this season, holding
off Christopher two weeks ago to record his 47th career
SK Modified® victory at Stafford. Another driver to
watch for this Friday night will be Keith Rocco. He
has yet to reach CARQUEST Victory Lane this season,
but he sits second in points and is hungry for a victory.
Eric Berndt has a stellar career record in extra distance
races and he will be sure to be a factor in this Friday
night's race along with Frank Ruocco and Willie Hardie,
who have both previously won extra distance events
at Stafford.
The
Late Models will partake in twin 30-lap feature events
this Friday night, and Kretschman Racing's Ryan Posocco
and Woody Pitkat have been the drivers to watch thus
far. In the two Late Model races run to date, they
sit 1-2 in the points standings and they each have
a victory this season. Tom Butler, Scott Foster, Jr.,
Mark St. Hilaire, Duane Noll, Dillon Moltz, Corey
Hutchings, and the rest of the Late Model field will
try to bring to an end the dominance of the two Kretschman
Racing entries, while Posocco and Pitkat look to keep
flying high.
The
SK Light division has been all about defending track
champion Chris Matthews this season. Matthews has
taken an impressive three out of four checkered flags
this season, but he enters this Friday night third
in the season points standings behind Mark Bakaj and
Raymond Grassetti. Bakaj scored his first career victory
two weeks ago on May 23rd and Grassetti is poised
to take down his first career victory in his second
season of SK Light competition, while Matthews will
be looking to make it four for five this Friday night.
In
Stafford's Limited Late Model division, there has
been three different winners in as many races, and
the top-3 drivers in the points standings, Bill Davis,
Andrew Durand, and defending track champion Sean Foster,
are separated by a scant 4-point margin heading into
this Friday night's action.
In
the DARE Stock division, two-time defending track
champion Norm Sears came out of the box blazing, winning
the first two races of the season, but an 18th place
finish on May 30th dropped him from the points lead
back to third place in the season standings. Jeff
Jolly currently leads the standings on the strength
of two second place and a third place finish this
season with Don Wood holding down the second spot
in the season standings.
