DIRT 602 CRATE SPORTSMAN MODIFIEDS ADDED TO AUGUST 26th PRO ALL-STAR SERIES EVENT AT STAFFORD SPEEDWAY
For Immediate Release

August 9, 2012

(Stafford Springs, CT)---Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that its August 26 Pro All-Star Series event will be adding the Dirt 602 Crate Sportsman Modified division.  The Dirt 602 Crate Sportsman cars will join the PASS Super Late Model, PASS Sportsman, PASS Modified, and N.E. Truck Series divisions on the racing card.

The Dirt 602 Sportsman Modifieds are basically a full blown dirt modified with a 602 crate engine, the same engine that Stafford’s SK Light Modifieds use.  To the layman’s eye, if a Dirt 602 Crate Sportsman Modified was placed side by side with a full blown Dirt Modified, there would be very little to tell the two cars apart.  The similarities between the two classes of dirt cars would be like if one of Stafford’s SK Lights were placed alongside a full blown SK Modified® car.  There is very little to be able to tell the two cars apart other than speed and on track performance.
The Dirt 602 Sportsman cars run a dirt modified chassis with the Chevrolet 602 crate engine and they will be racing around Stafford on dirt tires rather than asphalt tires.

“We got to talking, and since this is an open show, we were looking for another division to add to the program,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry.  “The Dirt 602 Crate Sportsman teams are based in New York, so it’s not that far of a trip for the teams to make to Stafford, and we thought this would make an excellent addition to the divisions that we already have lined up.  These cars are pretty cool to watch on dirt, but I’ve never seen them race on asphalt, so we’re all pretty excited to see what these cars can do at Stafford.”

The Inaugural PASS event at Stafford will consist of the PASS Super Late Models in a 125-lap race, the PASS Sportsmans in a 60-lap race, the PASS Modifieds in a 40-lap race, the N.E. Truck Series in a 30-lap race, and the Dirt 602 Sportsman Modifieds in a 40-lap race.  For the PASS Sportsman feature, Stafford Limited Late Model cars will be eligible to race against the PASS Sportsman cars.

Gates for the Inaugural PASS Event will open at 1:30pm on Sunday, August 26th.  Heat races will begin at 4:00pm with features getting underway at approximately 5:00pm.  Tickets for the Inaugural PASS event are available and on sale now at the Speedway Box Office.  Tickets are priced at $27.50 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating will be priced at $30.00 for all ages.  All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax.  As always, Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking with overnight parking available.  Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking, with overnight parking available.
