August 11, 2007
(Stafford
Springs, CT)---Stafford Motor Speedway returned to
racing action on Friday night, August 10th with the
17th Annual New England Dodge Dealers 150 Whelen Modified
Tour event. Race fans saw Woody Pitkat and Ryan Posocco
continue their white hot summer streaks with Pitkat
taking his fourth consecutive SK Modified® feature
victory, while Posocco scored his third consecutive
Late Model feature win. Glen Reen took down the SK
Light feature win for his fifth win of the 2007 season,
Rick Lanagan scored his fifth Limited Late Model feature
win of 2007, and Megan Bienkowski scored her first
career victory in the 15-lap feature event.
The
40-lap SK Modified® feature took the green with Todd
Owen leading the field, but he was surpassed for the
lead by Jeff Malave on lap-4. The first 27 laps of
the race ran under green flag conditions, with Malave
building up a full straightaway lead over Owen before
the caution erased that margin. Woody Pitkat moved
from third to second on the restart on lap-31 and
then took the lead from Malave on lap-34. Pitkat held
serve on two final restarts in the last four laps
to score his fourth consecutive SK Modified® feature
win. Brad Hietala charged through the pack in the
closing laps to come home second, with Malave, Ted
Christopher, and Frank Ruocco rounding out the top-5.
The
30-lap Late Model feature took the green with Steve
McQuillan holding the early race lead. McQuillan led
the first 16 laps of the race before Ryan Posocco
overtook McQuillan on lap-17 after starting deep in
the race lineup. McQuillan stayed glued to Posocco's
back bumper over the final 13 laps of the race, but
couldn't get back by Posocco as he scored his third
consecutive Late Model feature win and fourth overall
victory of the 2007 season. McQuillan finished a career
best second, with Jim Peterson, Scott Foster, Jr.,
and Dillon Moltz rounding out the top-5.
The
20-lap SK Light feature took the green with Heather
DesRochers taking the early race lead. DesRochers
held the lead until lap-6 when Glen Reen moved out
front. Once Reen was out in front of the field, he
began to pull away from DesRochers in second place.
Reen built up a nearly full straighaway lead over
DesRochers as the race continued under green, but
a caution with 16 laps complete erased that lead and
set up a four lap sprint to the finish. Reen again
paced the field with DesRochers in second, but the
field was slowed again with 19 laps complete to set
up a green white checkered finish. Reen powered into
the lead and would not be caught as he scored his
fifth feature win of the 2007 season. DesRochers finished
second, with Josh Sylvester, Brit Andersen, and George
Nocera, Jr. rounding out the top-5.
The
20-lap Limited Late Model feature took the green with
a spin by Charlie Newman that brought out the caution
flag with 2 laps complete. Joey Ferrigno took the
lead on the restart and began to pull away. Rick Lanagan
was on the charge, quickly working his way up to second
place. Lanagan caught up to Ferrigno on lap-11 and
he made the pass for the lead on lap-13. Sean Foster
was the car on the charge in the second half of the
race and he worked his way up to second but couldn't
run Lanagan down as Lanagan scored his fifth feature
win of the 2007 season. Foster finished second with
Ferrigno, Bill Davis, and Michael Nadeau rounding
out the top-5.
The
15-lap DARE Stock feature saw Megan Biekowski wire
the field with a dominating green to checker victory.
Bienkowski took the lead from the pole position and
quickly began to stretch her advantage over second
place Bill Dunn. Norm Sears moved to third place on
lap-7, and the final 8 laps of the race ran unchanged
at the front of the field as Bienkowski was on a mission
and drove to her first career victory. Dunn finished
second, with Sears, Dan Flannery, and Carla Botticello
rounding out the top-5.
