STAFFORD —Mike Royce started the final lap of Monday’s 18-lap Senior Outlaw race in third place.
He was determined, however, not to finish there.
“I just drove it in hard and I wasn’t going to lift,” Royce said after he catapulted from third to first on the final lap to win his second feature of the season to highlight the action in the Ceric Fabrication Wild Thing Karts action, sponsored by Chapman Properties.
While Royce was hanging out in third, Bryan Narducci and Daniel Gayman were fighting for the lead. Royce, however, saw a sweet spot open up on the final lap.
“I saw the two guys go sideways coming out of turn 2,” Royce said. “That gave me the perfect line and I went under them on the backstretch. I knew if I could hold my kart down on the bottom, I had them both beaten.”
Gayman edged Narducci for second place.
In the Senior Champ race, Tim Sullivan roared by Scott Foster on lap 7 to collect his seventh win of the season. Chris Rudolph finished third.
In the first of two Junior Outlaw features, Steven Chapman survived a three-wide situation on lap 6 on his way to his fourth straight Junior Outlaw win.
Alexander Pearl finished second and Brody Sullivan was third.
In the second feature, Pearl took control of the race on an early restart and cruised to his first win of the year after finishing second four times. Greg Estell was second and George Bessette Jr. was third.
Tyler Chapman took the lead on the second lap to win the Tiger A feature, followed by Zach Buffone and Cameron Pearl.
Ryan Magliano zipped past Parker Berndt with five laps to go to win the Tiger B feature. Damian Palardy was third.
Jesse Martello held off Chris Magliano to prevail in the Tiger C feature. P.J. Evans was third.
Cody Heath won the Cubs feature while Kaylee Baj was second and Austin Allen third. Justin Albernaz won the Pro II Modifieds for the third straight race.
Racing resumes Monday with double features for the Senior Outlaws.
