(Stafford Springs, CT)—Winning a championship at any level of motorsports can prove to be a tough feat and winning consecutive titles only ramps up the difficulty level. But that didn’t faze Wethersfield native Frank L’Etoile, Jr. in his quest for a second consecutive track title in Stafford Speedway’s DARE Stock division.
L’Etoile was a mode of consistency during his 2014 championship run and he and his #33 Zeke’s Pump Service / Tommy’s Tattoo Supply team raised their game to an even higher level of consistency during the 2015 season and they would need it with 3 other drivers in the championship hunt for much of the year. L’Etoile got his 2015 season started by scoring 17 consecutive top-5 finishes and his worst finish of the entire season was a seventh place effort on August 28th. As good as L’Etoile was, he had Tyler Trott and Dan Dembek right on his heels for much of the year before pulling away from them in the final weeks of the season. L’Etoile joins the likes of Ted and Mike Christopher, Phil Rondeau, Ryan Posocco, Richie Evans, and Geoff Bodine just to name a few, as drivers who have won championships in back to back years at Stafford.
“You don’t think about repeating, you just go out do what you do every single race and the end result speaks for itself,” said L’Etoile. “It’s kind of unreal for me because I grew up in the stands and to be considered on the list [with drivers who have won back to back championships at Stafford] is just phenomenal. We went into the year with the same goal as last season and we came out with the same result. We knew we could get it done, we have a great car and a great team, it was just a matter of keeping out of trouble, keep things consistent, and stay up with the upkeep on the car. It feels great to go back to back.”
As consistent as L’Etoile and the #33 team were during the 2015 season, there was very little breathing room a the top of the standings as both Trott and Dembek were not letting L’Etoile get comfortable. L’Etoile credits his crew for giving him all the tools he needed to stay out front.
“I think it was the consistency we had in the shop and staying up with the maintenance on the car,” said L’Etoile. “We came to the track with the same mindset every week this season. It was really tight right up until the last 2 or 3 races. Between Dan, Tyler and myself, we were no more than 10 or so points apart for most of the year. But having everybody that close in the standings I think really helped keep us on point with keeping up with the car and keep making the effort to make the car faster every week. We couldn’t back down and the competition definitely makes you better. My crew makes my life very easy as a driver here and I can’t thank them all enough. They give me a consistent car every week and the only thing more consistent than my driving was the car. If you can finish every race with equipment like these guys give me, you’re going to finish in the top-5 so thank you guys. I also have to thank all my sponsors this season, Zeke’s Pump Service, Tommy’s Tattoo Supply, Minuteman Press, Dave Miller with Auto Machine, K & W Custom Auto, Wild Thing Karts, The Wheel Shop, Auto Wize, Star Fabrication and Race Chassis, Jet Electric, and GOP Services.”
For the season, L’Etoile tied for the division lead with 3 wins, but he led all drivers with 21 top-5 and 22 top-10 finishes in 22 starts. L’Etoile will officially be recognized as the 2015 DARE Stock champion at the 46th Annual Stafford Speedway Champions Awards Ceremony to be held on Friday, November 20 at Maneeley’s in South Windsor.
