(Stafford Springs, CT)—The NAPA Auto Parts Gamblers Challenge presented by Dunleavy Truck and Trailer is back in 2016. After paying out an impressive bonus of nearly $8,000 in 2015, the challenge will once again consist of drivers paying $100 to enter with a dollar for dollar match provided by Doug Dunleavey of Dunleavey’s Truck and Trailer Repair.
The drivers have the bonus on the table but the fans get to decide how it will be distributed. Race fans can log onto www.staffordspeedway.com to cast their vote for how the bonus should be distributed. The top-3 bonus structures in online polling will then be pro-rated and placed into a bucket for the winner to draw out of in victory lane. The 2015 NAPA Auto Parts SK 5k was a thriller till the end and was capped by an epic finish with winner Ryan Preece selecting the “winner” pill signifying the bonus be paid to the winner and a payout of $12,850.
After the Gambler’s Challenge announcement last Wednesday three drivers quickly entered, all excited about their prospects of taking home the big pay day.
Inaugural NAPA SK 5k champion Rowan Pennink likes his odds of taking home another big payday:
“I’m hoping to obviously win the race. We won the race the first year and had a good car last year so hopefully we can win the race again, pull the pill that will give us the most money, and take home the big prize.”
June 24th SK Modified® feature winner and all-time Stafford win leader with 120+ career victories, Ted Christopher, thinks he has the car to beat in this years NAPA SK 5K.
“The car is going good right now, we’ve been good in the long distance races before and we were second two years ago. I think we have a good enough car to challenge for the win this year. Hopefully if we win I can pick the choice that gives us the biggest payday. All I can do is try, right?”
Somers native and driver of the #81 Cooker Construction car, Todd Owen, is hoping a win in the NAPA SK 5K can kick start his 2016 season and turn his teams luck around.
“Winning that race would be awesome for us. We’ve had a season of mostly downs so far, but it hasn’t been for a lack of effort by everyone on our team. We’re still trying to get to the bottom of an issue that has been plaguing us, but it would be great for us to be able to get things turned around and get a good finish and a big payday.”
