50 Greatest Modified Drivers – Mike Ewanitsko

Mike Ewanitsko is another member of the “Long Island Gang” that has made his mark in the Stafford Motor Speedway history books.  Ewanitsko began his racing career at Islip, New York in late 1984, just before the track closed.  He shifted his efforts to Riverhead Raceway where he notched over 30 victories.

Ewanitsko was a front running competitor in Stafford’s Winston Racing Series-SK Modified® Division with a total of four Modified wins to his credit including the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Spring Sizzler® in 1994 and 1995, plus SK Modified® wins on May 10 and May 24 of 1996.

Ewanitsko recorded 28 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour victories to his credit.  In addition to his Stafford wins, he has also scored major touring series wins at Thompson, Martinsville, New Hampshire and Riverhead.

Ewanitsko hoped to one day to follow in the footsteps of Steve Park and Greg Sacks, moving up the ladder to NASCAR’s elite divisions.  Ewanitsko credited much of his success to his dad Lou, who funded his first efforts. The public voted Mike Ewanitsko to the Stafford Salutes NASCAR at 50 program recognizing the Fifty Greatest Modified Drivers of All-time.
