On This Date in Stafford History: June 11

1965

Ernie Gahan won the modified feature while Stafford was still a dirt track.  It was Gahan’s first of 2 wins in 1965 and it was the 25th of his 30 career modified wins on dirt at Stafford and Gahan also won 3 modified races on asphalt at Stafford in 1970 & 1971.

1973

Johnny Coy won the 50-lap Eastern Classic NEMA Midget feature on a Sunday.  It was one of three NEMA Midget wins for Coy at Stafford with his other wins coming in 1969 and 1978.

1982

Reggie Ruggiero won the Modified feature, Charlie Savage won the SK Modified® feature, and Dave Wandzy won the Street Stock feature.  Ruggiero’s win was his first of 3 wins in 1982 and it was the 2nd of his 15 career weekly modified wins at Stafford.  Ruggiero also won 8 Whelen Modified Tour races and 2 SK Modified® races at Stafford.  Savage’s win was his first of 6 wins in 1982 that helped carry him to the inaugural SK Modified® track championship at Stafford and it was Savage’s first of 8 career SK Modified® wins.  Wandzy’s win was his 2nd of 4 wins in 1982 and it was his 3rd of 5 career Street Stock wins at Stafford.

1993

Ted Christopher won the SK Modified® feature, Tony Sylvester won the ProStock feature, George Greco won the Late Model feature, and Chet Burdick won the DARE Stock feature.  Christopher’s win was his first of 6 wins in 1993 and it was the 26th of his 109 career SK Modified® wins at Stafford.  Sylvester’s win was his first of 2 wins in 1993 and it was the first of his 2 career ProStock wins at Stafford along with 3 Street Stock, 10 Late Model, and 2 SK Modified® wins.  Greco’s win was his only win of 1993 but he would go on to win the track championship.  It was the first of Greco’s 8 career Late Model wins at Stafford.

1999

Lloyd Agor was declared the SK Modified® feature winner after Mike Christopher was disqualified for altered mufflers, John Leger won the ProStock feature, Jamie Sommer won the Late Model feature, and Nick Bazzano won the DARE Stock feature.  Agor’s win was his only win of 1999 and it was the 7th of his 15 career SK Modified® feature wins at Stafford.  Leger’s win was his 3rd of 6 wins in 1999 and it was his 3rd of 7 career ProStock wins along with 8 Late Model wins at Stafford.  Sommer’s win was his first of 2 wins in 1999 and those 2 wins were the only wins of his career at Stafford.  Bazzano’s win was his first of 3 wins in 1999 and it was the 5th of his 7 career DARE Stock wins at Stafford.

2004

Ted Christopher won the SK Modified® feature, Ryan Posocco Late Model feature, and Michael Bennett won the DARE Stock feature.  In the last chance qualifying races, Woody Pitkat won the SK Modified® 21 Means 21 feature and Rick Dyer won the Late Model 16 feature.  Christopher’s win was his 3rd of 8 wins in 2004 that carried him to the track championship.  Posocco’s win was his 2nd of 7 wins in 2004 that helped him claim the track championship and it was Posocco’s 13th of 45 career Late Model wins at Stafford.  Bennett’s win was his only win of 2004 and it was his 4th and final career DARE Stock win to go along with 14 Limited Late Model and 20 Late Model wins.

2010

Keith Rocco won the Coors Light SK Modified® 100 feature, Ryan Posocco won the Late Model feature, Frank Cardile won the SK Light feature, Dan Flannery won the Limited Late Model feature, and Cory Casagrande won the DARE Stock feature.  Rocco’s win was his 4th of 10 wins in 2010 that allowed him to claim the track championship and it was his 17th of 57 and counting career SK Modified® wins at Stafford.  Posocco’s win was his 1st of 4 wins in 2010 that helped him clami the track championship and it was his 40th of 45 career Late Model wins at Stafford.  Cardile’s win was his 2nd of 2 wins in 2010 and it was his 2nd of 5 career SK Light feature wins at Stafford.  Flannery’s win was his 3rd of 6 wins in 2010 that allowed him to claim the track championship and it was the 4th of his 8 career Limited Late Model wins at Stafford.  Casagrande’s win was his 2nd of 3 wins in 2010 and his 2nd of 3 career DARE Stock wins at Stafford to go along with 9 Limited Late Model wins and 1 Late Model win.
