50 Greatest Modified Drivers – Jamie “The Jet” Tomaino

Jamie Tomaino is a four-time feature winner at Safford and he was the NASCAR Modified Tour champion in 1990.  He was also the Modified Tour Most Popular Driver in 1986 and 1987.  Hailing from Howell, New Jersey, Tomaino was a regular weekly modified competitor at Stafford in 1985 and 1986.  His first win at Stafford came on August 23, 1985, but his best year by far was 1986.  After winnig a regular 30-lap feature on May 16, Tomaino recorded wins in the Ferrara 100 on July 4th and the Fall Final 150 on October 1st.

Tomaino has spent over half of his life in racing.  He began his career in 1974 at Wall Stadium in Belmar, New Jersey in the Sportsman division.  In 1976 he moved up to modifieds and has been there ever since.  When the NASCAR Modified Tour was formed in 1985, Tomaino joined the Tour and has driven in almost every Tour event to date.

Over the past few seasons, “The Jet” has cut back his full-time driving schedule but he still finds time to make a handful of NASCAR Modified Tour starts each season and he has fielded entries for Chase Dowling.  Tomaino has made at least one NASCAR Modified Tour start every year since the Tour’s inception in 1985.
