60 Greatest Modified Drivers of All-Time: Ryan Preece
Another second generation driver, Preece burst onto the modified scene in 2007 as a 16-year old driving his family owned car to three top-10 finishes. Moving to the Boehler Family #3 in 2008, Preece served notice at the NAPA Spring Sizzler® that he was a driver to watch for the future by leading 64 of the first 90 laps of the race before engine trouble ended his day on lap-91. Preece would win his first Tour race later that season at Martinsville and he would go on to record 26 Tour wins, good for 10 place on the Tour’s all-time win list, as well as the 2013 Tour championship.
Of Preece’s 26 Tour wins, 9 of them came racing at Stafford. Preece also was a big winner during his time in the SK Modified® division at Stafford, racking up 25 wins from 2010-2018 and the track championship in 2011. In addition to his 25 SK wins and 9 Tour wins, Preece has 2 Open Modified wins and 1 MRS victory at Stafford. Preece has since moved on to win races at the Craftsman Truck Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series levels and he is a veteran of over 200 starts in the NASCAR Cup Series. Preece was named as one of the 40 Greatest WMT Drivers in 2025 and is now one of the 60 Greatest Modified Drivers of all-time as voted on by fans.
