Stafford Speedway to Expand “Greatest Modified Drivers” List with Fan Vote

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Speedway is expanding its “50 Greatest Modified Drivers” list to 60, with the addition of 10 new drivers, selected through a fan-driven nomination and voting process that is now open on Stafford’s social media pages.

The original 50 Greatest Modified Drivers list was created more than 20 years ago to recognize the drivers who helped build Stafford Speedway’s long and proud Modified racing history. That group includes some of the most recognizable names ever to race at Stafford, including Bugsy Stevens, Richie Evans, Reggie Ruggerio, Ted Christopher, Mike Stefanik, and many more. Their wins, championships, and rivalries helped shape Stafford into one of the most respected Modified tracks in the country.

With over two decades having passed since the original list was named, Stafford Speedway felt the time was right to expand the list and recognize additional drivers whose accomplishments came after — or continued well beyond — that original era.

“It’s been over 20 years since the 50 Greatest list was put together,” said David Arute, Stafford Speedway General Manager. “A lot of great Modified racing has taken place here since then. Time has passed, the history has grown, and it’s time to add more drivers to that list and recognize what they’ve meant to Stafford.”

Following the nomination period, fan voting will open in January on staffordspeedway.com, with the top 10 vote-getters earning a spot on the Greatest Modified Drivers list.

The 10 newly selected drivers will be recognized during the 2026 NAPA Spring Sizzler weekend, adding another meaningful chapter to one of Stafford Speedway’s signature events.
