50 Greatest Modified Drivers – Satch Worley
“The Southern Gentleman”
Donald ‘Satch’ Worley, from Rocky Mount, Virginia, has driven for both Northern and Southern car owners during his racing career with one Stafford Motor Speedway Modified win to his credit: The 1975 July 3rd Permatex 150.
Worley, who first came on the scene at Trenton in the early 1970’s, has over 25 years of Modified racing under his belt and has over 100 victories to his credit. Among those treasured the most are the Race of Champions at Pocono and numerous wins at Martinsville; the track he calls home. Worley is also a past champion at the Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
From 1985-1999, Worley was an on and off NASCAR Modified Tour competitor and was voted most popular by his peers in 1990 and 1991. Among his Southern car owners were William Mason and Wayne ‘Speedy’ Thomas and Northern car owners included Bob Garbarino and Greg and Vanessa Narducci. He has two Modified Series wins to his credit.
In a storied career, Satch Worley has tasted success in every major NASCAR division including NASCAR Cup and the Xfinity Series. He is truly deserving of being named one of the Fifty greatest Modified Drivers of All-Time as voted by the public, part of the Stafford Salutes NASCAR at 50 program.
