2025 NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler Recap

53rd Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler

The 2025 NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler saw a former track champion take home the checkered flag in the form of Stephen Kopcik.  Prior to the 2025 NAPA Spring Sizzler, Kopcik had 17 total feature wins at Stafford with 14 wins in the SK Modified division and 3 in the SK Light division to go along with his 2015 SK Light championship.  Kopcik had to overcome an early race penalty to navigate his way back through the field to the front.

Jake Johnson and Michael Christopher, Jr. brought the field to the green flag with Johnson leading the first lap before giving way to Christopher on lap-2. Johnson retook the lead on lap-11 and he was still up front when the caution came out with 21 laps complete for a spin by Sam Rameau. Kopcik, who was running in sixth place at the time, was shown the black flag for making contact with Rameau and had to restart at the rear of the field.

From that point forward, Johnson was in control of the race and looked like he had the car to beat.  Johnson held the race lead until a caution with 59 laps complete brought the leaders to pit road.  Johnson won the race off of pit road, but with only 3 cars staying out, he restarted in fourth place.  A restart with 61 laps complete saw Johnson’s great run go up in smoke as he got loose and backed his #15 car into the turn 1 wall.  Woody Pitkat was penalized for making contact with Johnson while Johnson was parked for the remainder of the race for hitting Pitkat’s car under caution.

By this point, Kopcik had worked his way back into contention and he took the lead on lap-62. Kopcik held the lead until a caution slowed the action with 92 laps complete and erased the margin that Kopcik had built up over the rest of the field.  The car on the charge at this late stage of the race was Anthony Nocella in his family owned #92 machine.  Nocella ran wheel to wheel with Kopcik and took the lead from Kopcik with 5 laps to go.  Kopcik went back to the lead on lap-96 but a caution with 99 laps on the board set up a green-white-checkered finish.  Kopcik held off Nocella and then Woody Pitkat on the final lap to score the victory.

Pitkat finished second behind Kopcik with Nocella, Matt Galko, and Joey Cipriano making up the top-5.  Rounding out the bottom half of the top-10 finishers were Brian Robie, Tyler Rypkema, Dana DiMatteo, Timmy Solomito, and David Arute.
